His Promise

We’re very excited to tell you that Franco Ferrer, our True Love Waits Philippines’ National Training Coordinator, recently married his ex-girlfriend after four years of waiting! Below is his wedding vow to Pauline (January 07, 2011) and we pray that aside from the “kilig” factor you’re probably looking, you’ll be encouraged to wait for the right Reason.

Mr & Mrs. Franco & Pauline Ferrer

I praise God for this day and moment that I can declare my deep affection for you, Pau.

My heart overflows with truth that He is the one who orchestrated all things from the first time I saw you and was making papansin in the Lead Like Jesus Seminar; when I asked Ate Bing to put us in one group as small group leaders in our LCSBC Youth Camp; and when I insisted to be your partner during the banquet night while Linus was sleeping on your lap that led us to stay the whole midnight getting to know each other. You captivated me so much that my heart didn’t ever want to stop pursuing you.

I can go on and on with more stories how our friendship grew, how I courted you and your family. That October 3 [2006] served as our monthsary and for four years I often forget to greet you or ikaw din minsan. Last October 26, 2009 we [with True Love Waits staff] planned to set you up for a marriage proposal and you said yes—because you didn’t have a choice and you’re trapped with us—until the day came that we both agreed to marry and pursue a covenant relationship with each other and God.

All of these things were beyond our control but God made it possible and put it into reality. The Sovereign God of the universe ordained everything about us to make our paths cross and be joined in a glorious journey in seeing and savoring Him forever.

Pau, you are God’s precious gift to me. I don’t want to make promises but my desire and prayer is to be a godly husband who will love you as Christ loves the church, who will pursue you everyday as Christ pursues us with unconditional love and abounding grace, to value you with all of my life and to be with you until my last breath. And if I forget one of these, tell me quickly so I can repent and ask God to fill me with love to be poured out in you.

I also thank God for the desire He instilled in your heart to journey with me in pursuing an intimate, pure, and loving relationship with Him. Here’s what I can certainly promise to you…

Though the fig tree should not blossom,

nor fruit be on the vines,

the produce of the olive fail

and the fields yield no food,

the flock be cut off from the fold

and there be no herd in the stalls,

Yet I will rejoice in the LORD;

I will take joy in the God of my salvation.

~Habakkuk 3:17-18

I love you so much.

I heard you guys just this morning at Family Matters at 702 DZAS. I commend you guys for sharing and initiating concrete actions towards stoping our society’s ‘miseducation’ about love. I wish I had known about this a long, long, long time ago…but God is always gracious and forgiving and unconditionally loving towards us. Mistakes in the past help us become better and mature individuals in the future if we let God have his way on us. I love your ‘story’…i’ll share it with my guy friends. 🙂

  9. Aaaw! *kilig* Real love stories are always better than the ones you see on movies and TV. Always so blessed whenever I see testimonies like these where God is glorified. Truly, God is the one who orchestrates such beautiful moments…such deep and pure love.

Congratulations, Franco! Thanks for being an inspiration to many young people!
