Roxas City: Renewal of Hearts

His Into Renewal of Hearts
2nd True Love Waits Philippines Ministry Trip to Roxas City

In this generation, youth give in to the media’s picture of love. Popular culture rarely illustrates true love as character to consider, and sex as sacred. Marriage after sex is the new normal for Millennials. To believe that true love waits and practice of no sex before marriage has become out-of-date in a highly sex-saturated culture.

What data do we have on Filipino youth? To begin with we have the highest teenage pregnancy rate among Southeast Asian countries, and a U.P. study revealed that 1 out of 3 Filipino teenagers have had sex before marriage, which is approximately 7 million Filipino youth. In the Western Visayas region, Capiz has the highest prevalence rate of teen pregnancies in the Philippines. The challenges that our youth are facing include HIV-AIDS, abortion, school drop out, unemployment, health risks, family dysfunction and the list is growing. Remedies are being done to address these problems, but there’s only one way to revolutionize this downward spiral of actions that break God’s commands.

Revolutionary Love looks upward to the One who is the author of life and true love – Jesus Christ. He came to seek and save the lost! (Luke 19:10) He pulled us out from the mud of sin and entanglement by a lesser ‘love’.

Jesus is the renewer of hearts and makes us pure.

God is pursuing our youth and made it possible for the 2nd True Love Waits Philippines ministry trip to Roxas City on June 13 to July 3, 2018. The two TLW PH staff, Kat Javier and Oda Zapanta did a series of campaigns and meet-ups among leaders of different sectors in Roxas and to nearby provinces of Aklan and Guimaras, Iloilo; and delivered Love Revolution Talks and Love Revolution Workshops to different churches, universities and youth groups . The TLW volunteers from Manila; Mark Martin Soriano, Sarah Ramos and Marjorie Wamar, each spent a week and served as facilitators and speakers.

The team conducted Love Revolution Talks with the Freshmen students of the Capiz State University (June 21, July 3), the youth of Capiz Christian Church – Libas (June 23), to the Grade 11 students of Capiz National High School (June 22), and the Grades 7-10 students of Good Shepherd Fold Academy (July 1), Guimaras. One very significant event during this visit was a Love Revo Talk done among the Roxas City SK chairpersons (June 30). There is a possibility of conducting the Love Revo Talk with all 47 barangays of Roxas city! We pray for this to materialize.

Love Revolution Workshops were also done among the youth of Lucero Baptist Church (June 16), and among the Peer Counselors of Filamer Christian University (June 28).

God blessed this trip with the support of prayers, favors, financial help, ministry and networking opportunities and the presence and practical help of local volunteers and encouragement of people from local churches. There is more work to do in our city and we hope to create a core group locally to continue the mission. We will press on!
